We have tried the new Furbo Dog Camera... and here's what we thought!

You may have heard a lot about the new Furbo Dog Camera recently and we were super excited to see what it was all about!
Working in the office at PawBakes we often wonder what Tia is getting up to at home. She’s definitely a mischievous dog who likes to get her paws on things she shouldn’t (often eating mysterious items and ending up at the vets). So when Furbo got in touch to see if we would like to try out their camera, it was a no-brainer. We can finally see what she’s getting up to!!
So what is it?
The Furbo Dog Camera is an interactive smart dog camera that lets you see, talk, and toss treats to your dog from anywhere. It helps owners who may worry about their dogs to keep an eye on them, all from their phone. The Furbo is made just for dogs and is designed to help train, comfort, and reward them when no one is in.
First Impressions...
The camera arrived well packaged and very well presented. Included in the box was the camera, the plug/adapter and a 'Quick Start Guide'.
When we first saw the camera, we loved how stylish it was. We had an image in our heads of a bulky 'security' looking camera, but we couldn't have been more wrong. It's modern and trendy but also subtle so still fits in well. It definitely doesn't look out of place on the shelf at home. In fact, it matched the coffee, sugar and tea pots perfectly in the kitchen! We LOVE the natural bamboo wood cover!
Setting the Camera up... Setting up the camera was so simple. We loved the fact that it came with a 'Quick Start Guide' (we much prefer these to bigger user manuals)! It was all set up within 3 easy steps:
1. Plug the camera into an electrical outlet
2. Wait for the light at the bottom of the Furbo to turn green
3. Download the Furbo Dog Camera app to your phone and follow the step-by-step guide (you will need your wi-fi password).
Do not fear if you’re a technophobe… it really was as simple as that!
Using the Camera...
As soon as you have downloaded the app, you're ready to go! We showed Tia the camera and stood with her whilst we 'fired' the first treat - it makes a little noise when you do this. At first she didn't really understand and was a little unsure ( if we're honest, we didn't think she was going to get much use out of this feature). But then she began to make an association between the noise the camera would make and the fact she was going to get a treat! We would then find her sitting by the camera waiting patiently.... success! The treats are easy to fill up and if small enough, they will fire out 2 or 3 at a time.
In terms of the actual camera, we were pleasantly surprised by the high-quality of the picture and sound. You can check on your dogs wherever you are (as long as you are connected to the internet) with a really clear view of them. Not only can you watch them, you can also record or photograph your dog on the camera's live stream! There's also a feature that lets you talk to your dog through the microphone. We let Tia know when we are going to release a treat!
The app is super clever! It sends alerts direct to your phone when your dog barks, and this has got to be our favourite feature! We have used this loads with Tia - just to make sure she's okay. Generally it's nothing to worry about but it’s reassuring to be able to check in so easily.
The camera can also switch to infrared mode so you can still check up on your dog when you have gone to bed which is very handy!
Our Overall Thoughts...
Overall, we love Furbo and think it’s a great product - we are actually enjoying it more than we thought we would! It's perfect for dog owners who have to leave their dog unaccompanied at home, and want to keep an eye on them. The barking alert is definitely one of our favourite features! We do recommend being there the first few times you use the treats dispenser so that you can get your dog used to it and praise them!
